.
.
WATCH ON THE WEB...
.
"HOLLYWOOD MUSIC IN MEDIA AWARDS" is Thursday night, 8-10 pm, at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.
+
We have inside word of a live web simulcast at
http://www.hmmawards.org -- or possibly at the companion site, www.hmmawards.com
+
Local nu-folk singer-songerwriter ROBERT MORGAN FISHER is among the nominees. WYLD OLDE SOULS from New York, CLAIRE WYNDHAM from Sydney Australia, and SIERRA WEST from Boston are vying for the Folk/Acoustic award. Grammy-winning guitarist LAURENCE JUBER is part of a consortium of musicians nominated for Best Video Game soundtrack.
+
They're all on a who's-who of "A-List" composers, producers, songwriters, and music supervisors. They, together with technology companies and music legends, will be honored for their musical contributions to film, TV, video games, movie trailers, and other visual mediums.
+
The HMMA is billed as "the premiere destination prior to the traditional awards season."
+
This year's event is hosted by master musical impressionist GREG LONDON.  Celebrity guest presenters including actor ERIC ROBERTS.
+
Nominated Film Scores & Composers are likely to command the most attention. These include John Williams, "Lincoln"; Thomas Newman, "Skyfall"; Howard Shore, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"; Jonny Greenwood, "The Master"; Mychael Danna, "Life of Pi"; Joe Kraemer, "Jack Reacher"; Marco Beltrami, "The Sessions"; Moritz Schmittat, "Shady Lady"; and Nuno Malo, "LUV".
+
There are categories for TV, Film, Video Game, Soundtrack Album, Movie Trailer and Song, all included in the awards.
+
In July, HMMA premiered the first of an ongoing series entitled "Road to Hollywood, Making it to the Main Stage." This pilot episode features the story of Imran Raza's journey to the HMMA's in 2011.
+
It tells the tale of assembling a globally diverse 10+ piece band for an HMMA first-ever 7-minute feature opening performance. The band, "Sonic Ashtanga," took home the award for the World category and won the hearts and minds of the Hollywood elite in attendance that evening. Their mystical world fusion rock composition, "Be Like the Onion," can be heard on the awards website. These awards are more diverse and inclusive than their title suggests.
.
Good luck to all the nominees.

It always astonishes me how much music there is. I would never know about 95% of it if you didn't do this. Thank you!!!

Got to say, I was getting tired of scrolling thru all that tv stuff--until I started seeing things that looked interesting. I havent watched any regular tv in a week now, and i stayed in 4 nights this week. KLCS deserves some kind of prize, especially in this town, where there is almost no good radio. Cj

Just moved to LA two months ago. Found this about 5 weeks back. Need to say-I have heard more music in those 5 weeks than in the previous 10 years of my life. Freeways are a drag but music places are awesome!!!

Oops. Looks like I posted these comments to the wrong slot at the cyber post office. Each was received by email and copied here, when most of them were in response to the update for the weekend. I'll move them where they belong, if I can figure-out how to do that... As always, THANKS TO EVERYONE for taking time to comment! -- the editor

That is wonderful! When you had Robert on the radio about seven years (or so) ago, I fell in love with some of his songs and bought his cd. I still play it! I have thought Whatever became of him? Hope he wins!!!!

The Acoustic Americana Music Guide will have more on this, but congratulations are in order:

Robert Morgan Fisher’s song “Don’t You Wanna Go to Mars?” has won the Best Folk/Acoustic Category at the prestigious 2012 Hollywood Music In Media Awards.

The song is from his new album, "Notes for a Novel" (available on disc and digital from CDBaby.com) and features JANIS IAN lending harmony.

Earlier this year, “Don’t You Wanna Go to Mars?” placed in the Top 6 "Folk Songs of the Year" in the 2012 "Song of the Year Competition" and has been added to the JPL rotation of songs used to wake up astronauts in space.

The star-studded, red-carpet HMMA ceremony took place at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood. Winning this award is widely acknowledged to be a major career milestone for a music artist as well as a possible precursor for Grammy consideration.
