A Very Full Saturday, Dec 15, 2012

.
Many artists and arts blogs today, along with social media, are filled with expressions of horror and calls to action following yesterday's massacre of innocent little children and their teachers and school staff and administrators. We believe we know our readers, and believe it our duty to add the following prelude to Saturday's already-published edition.
.
VIGILS TO END GUN VIOLENCE... here's one, today, and a url to find more, EVERYWHERE in America.
.
Sat, Dec 15, in Glendale:
5 pm "Candlelight Vigil to End Gun Violence" in Glenoaks Park, in Glendale.
.
Friday's school massacre in Connecticut is a national tragedy. Lori Haas, whose daughter survived the shooting rampage at Virginia Tech five years ago, has called for candlelight vigils today to remember the victims and say "Enough! End gun violence now." We'll gather at schools, parks, and other public locations to mourn, build community, and stand together for an end to gun violence. Can you join us in Glendale today?
.
Can't make this vigil? New vigils are being posted every few minutes. Click below to find another vigil near you.

.
PETITION TO THE NRA...
.
Beyond a single day's vigil, the root cause of gun violence remains. We're all in shock that 20 very young children are dead from bullets. (The latest 20, all at once, this time.) Sickness needs treatment. Disgusted that the "bought" Congress allowed the Brady Bill to expire? Horrified that, in a supposed democracy where the majority wants an end to gun violence, a small, vocal, well-funded special interest exercises perpetual contol to block anything reasonable? Here is something simple you can do: direct action, addressed to the NRA. And Avaaz, the originators of the petition, is a good organization. Check-out the petition at
