FILM SCREENING,
in Pasadena:
7 pm "A PLACE AT THE TABLE," presented by the Conscientious Projector, at The Armory Center for the Arts, at 145 N Raymond, Old Pasadena.
+
This documentary calls for ending hunger in the USA. Our society has the means to feed everyone in this country. Yet 50 million people in the U.S., including one in every four children, do not know where their next meal is coming from.
+
Conscientious Projector takes a look at the state of hunger in America and its serious economic, social and cultural implications with this screening.
+
The film's directors, Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush, examine the issues via the personal stories of people struggling with food insecurity and facing a national rise in diseases related to inadequate nutrition.
+
Their heartrending accounts are interwoven with insights from experts including sociologist Janet Poppendieck, author Raj Patel, nutrition policy leader Marion Nestle, and activists such as "Witness to Hunger’s" Mariana Chilton, "Bread for the World’s" David Beckman, "Top Chef’s" Tom Colicchio, and actor/founder of the "End Hunger Network" Jeff Bridges.
+
David Gist, California organizer for "Bread for the World," will facilitate a community discussion following the film.

+
David King, Seed Library of Los Angeles (SLOLA) chair and founder, is one of the speakers at the festival and available at the SLOLA information booth. Learn why "heirloom" seeds are so important, and the myriad dangers of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) now proliferating across the planet, thanks to profit-seeking hegemony of big chemical giants.
+
While all the big environmental organizations are there, we are fans of SLOLA.
+
SLOLA is dedicated to preserving an open-pollinated, non-GMO supply of seeds, regionalized to the Los Angeles basin, and educating the public on how to save those seeds. A $10 lifetime membership lets you borrow seeds FREE, grow them out, enjoy the bounty, then return a like quantity of seeds at season’s end. More at www.slola.org

The ACOUSTIC AMERICANA MUSIC GUIDE endeavors to bring you NEWS and views of interest to artists everywhere, more specifically to musicians and the creative community, and music makers and fans of acoustic and Folk-Americana music, both traditional and innovative. We provide a wealth of resources, including a HUGE catalog of acoustic-friendly venues, and schedules of performances in Southern California venues large and small. We cover workshops and other events for artists and folks in the music industry, and all kids o’ things in the world of acoustic and Americana and accessible classical music. From washtub bass to musical spoons to oboe to viola to banjo to squeezebox, from Djangostyle to new-fangled-old-time string band music, from sweet Cajun fiddle to pre-bluegrass Appalachian mountain music to proto blues.

This is where I found out about Toshi Seeger dying. Others later had big obits. Do you still have that Pete Seeger poster on your wall from the movie 3 or 4 years ago? - Kate

Yes. The poster from "Pete Seeger: The Power of Song" is still on our wall. It's there because it just needs to be. Btw, Toshi was Executive Producer of the film.
