County Arts Commission has been presenting the Holiday Celebration on December 24 since 1959, funded by the taxpayers, with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors always giving themselves the credit. Lang hit the scene as a prodigy instrumentalist, topping the Billboard New Artist chart with his first album at age 15. Today he stands as a mature creative force, made more sensitive, yet also toughened by life’s adventures. Lang has learned what it means to rise above hard times and to find meaning where chaos seemed to rule. With his latest release, "Fight For My Soul," he is entering a chapter wherein he has found his true voice.

This sense of who he wants to be is at the core of the album. Lang says, “The inspiration for the songs on the record vary widely. Some are about personal struggles, some are focused on injustices I have seen. Some are random fictional stories that hopefully can relate to people in some way that is a blessing to them. I’ve wanted to make this album for a long time. Creatively, I think there is a lot more going on inside of me than I’ve been sharing on recordings.”

This grass roots approach was new to Lang, whose four earlier studio albums were written and crafted under the watch of his previous record labels. He finds it a welcome change. After Lang released his Grammy-winning "Turn Around" in 2007, he made the decision to forego the major label route and became an independent artist. The first result was 2009’s "Live At the Ryman," but "Fight For My Soul," by its nature, is his first fully realized artistic achievement through his own label, SayRai Music.

Lang's chosen path has brought the opportunity to interact with some of the most respected legends in music. On the way up, he's shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Aerosmith, Sting, and Buddy Guy -- who he continues to tour with today.

As a 12-year-old, he began a journey in Fargo, ND, that has brought him to points across the Globe. As he looks on the near-term future, he shares, “With this album, I really look forward to bringing our music to people in places where I’ve never been before. Music is one of the greatest conveyers of ideas and emotions, and in a sense that doesn’t have as much to do with the individual performing, but the power of the connection. One of my goals is the music can be a blessing to the people listening to it in some way. He has 51 years on this ancient eleven-stringed Persian fretless instrument, which itself dates back some 2,000 years. The Oud is performed with an eagle's quill.

He has recorded background music for over 80 TV and motion picture soundtracks in Hollywood, countless documentaries and HBO trailers, and in the Warner Bros. movie "Must Love Dogs," and "Mirror Wars," a film about Russian espionage and America.

The band is now in their 48th consecutive year of touring, without missing a single concert date!

In March of 2013, Chicago’s multi-platinum two-disc bestseller, The Very Best Of Chicago, Only The Beginning charted at #1 on two Billboard charts: the Catalog Chart, and the Digital Catalog chart. In Billboard Magazine’s list of Top 100 artists of all time, Chicago came in at #13, the highest charting American band.

Chicago is currently recording new songs. Fans are being offered clips of works in progress on the band’s website, www.chicagotheband.com. The band is planning on releasing two songs at a time digitally throughout this year and then eventually compiling them into a CD or some other format. One of these songs is a cover of the great Spiral Starecase hit, “More Today Than Yesterday.” The first new Chicago song released was “Somethin’ Comin,’ I Know,” which was recorded on the road. A new studio track, “America,” was released on September 24, 2013. CNN called it the “Shutdown Song.”

Lifetime achievements include a Grammy Award, multiple American Music Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Chicago street dedicated in their honor, and keys to and proclamations from an impressive list of US cities. Record sales top the 100,000,000 mark, and include 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive Number One albums, 11 Number One singles and 5 Gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 34 albums have been certified platinum, and the band has a total of 47 gold and platinum awards.

The line-up includes original band members Robert Lamm on keyboards, vocals, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, James Pankow on trombone and Walt Parazaider on woodwinds, as well as Jason Scheff on bass, vocals, Tris Imboden on drums, Keith Howland on guitar, Lou Pardini on keyboards, vocals and Wally Reyes on percussion.
