"CAR TALK" on NPR affiliate stations all around the country, presents a special tribute.

"CLICK and CLACK, the TAPPET BROTHERS" are real-life brothers Ray and Tom, the longtime hosts of the most entertaining "learn-something" show, ever.
+
Ray will be taking an hour to remember his brother Tom, who passed away Monday from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
+
Indie singer-songwriters and big label recording artists alike have been treated very well by the show, which plays fragments of original songs about cars, road trips, coming of age behind the wheel (or in the back seat), and more. Over the years, “Car Talk” has released several compilation CDs of the complete songs.
+
The show will feature some of Tom’s funniest moments from nearly thirty years of Car Talk. A spokesman says, "We’ve pulled together moments that are 'classic Tom' — his wacko theories, his insights on callers’ lives, and his unique take on life. And, of course, no shortage of his great laughter. We hope you can join us."

Leroy Thomas, also known as "the Jewel of the Bayou", is one of the most gifted, versatile, and dynamic musicians on the zydeco scene. Leroy was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana and raised in Elton Louisiana. He comes from a family of zydeco musicians. His father Leo "The Bull" Thomas is the only zydeco musician to lead a zydeco band from the drums. Leroy's father has a distinct method of drumming that inspired not only his sons, but is still emulated by many zydeco bands today. Other family related zydeco musicians are Keith Frank, a second cousin on his mother's side, Geno Delafose, a second cousin on his father's side, and Brian Terry a cousin on his father's side. Bob Stane says, “It's a genuine spectacle of effervescent (burp) entertainment Nov. 9 at Coffee Gallery Backstage. Flawed Friends and Coffee Gallery favorites Carol Schryver and Ron Bloom, otherwise known as the McMammals, will lead off with a mix of Celtic and American music performed on instruments that are actually tuned.”

John Bryan of Murphy’s Flaw says, “The Flaw is excited about this (the McMammals, not the tuning) because we never get a chance to hear them -- they seem to appear only in Nova Scotia and Ireland and such and we, sadly, are not allowed to leave the country.
+
“Their performance will build to the crescendo of the evening --Intermission.
+
“Then the Flaw takes over and sings brilliantly, plays expertly and entertains completely, as we wonder why people haven't returned from Intermission yet. It's a grand evening, and attendance will be taken.”
+
John also says, “Murphy’s Flaw is a fast-moving, funny bluegrass band now in its seventh incarnation during which it’s swollen like a carbuncle to six members. (We’re applying hot towels.) Among the members this time around are a former reggae/ska bass player, two writer/photographer/folksingers, a retired music teacher/surfer/jazz guitarist, a Japanese-born jazz violinist, and, believe it or not, an ex-fishing boat captain. Flaw members play several instruments including banjo, several flavors of guitar, ukelele bass, ? Dobro, lap steel, and mandolin. Some of these are in tune. Murphy’s Flaw, unlike other bands, also has a staff psychotherapist. There are good reasons for this.”

The MacMammals are an eclectic Celtic, British Isles, and North American acoustic music experience. This Southern California based acoustic duo presents a musical stew of sounds seasoned with a touch of bluegrass, and salted with some songs of the sea (arggh!). From warm ballads to rousing sea shanties, their music weaves historical tales with folklore and humor. Their selection of distinctive and seldom heard songs augments The MacMammals experience and delights listeners.

The "Macs" are Carol Schryver and Ron Bloom. They have been performing together since 2004, each bringing unique backgrounds to their duo. Ron comes from a long background of folk and folk/rock. He performs on acoustic guitar, mandolin, Irish bouzouki, and lends warm vocals. Carol has performed Celtic and Appalachian music for over twenty years. Her vocal work is said to be reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins. She backs her sheer, genuine, and enchanting contralto vocals with guitar and, on occasion, accordion. Backing The MacMammals will be bassist Paul Marshall. Paul’s warm and inventive bass licks are stirred into the pot, adding icing to The MacMammals cake. THE NEW CHRISTY MINSTRELS featured the great BARRY McGUIRE on some of their biggest hits. But, Barry, citing health issues, is retiring from his “Trippin’ the ’60s” show that he’s been performing with JOHN YORK (former BYRD), and it seems, really retiring. There are just two final appearances by Barry McGuire with The New Christy Minstrels, on Nov 2 in Cerritos, and on Nov 16 in Palm Desert. Info and ticket links for both are below.
