Now, back to the full edition as originally published.

Yes, we know. Valentine's Day is supposed to be when you're joyfully visible, spending money you don't have to impress your sweetheart in ways you can't afford.
Meanwhile, the WINTER OLYMPICS are causing some of us to disappear for prolonged periods.
But life, art and music do go on, and your favorite venues (and the artists performing in them) will be thrilled to see you. This edition offers gentle nudges to get you out of your after-work comfy chair, and into a seat that faces a stage.
And for those who are not Olympically inclined (we’ve heard such creatures do exist), we have Music-on-TV listings, too.

February 14 in History…
It’s Valentine’s Day, but the origins of that are lost in the distant past. Some historians believe it goes back to ancient Rome. William Shakespeare wrote about the day in the sixteenth century, in Hamlet, Act IV, Scene V:
”To-morrow is Saint Valentine’s Day,
All in the morning betime,
And I a maid at your window,
To be your Valentine.”
Of course, it’s a big day for the greeting card, cut flower, and chocolate industries. Approximately 900 million Valentines are sent in the US and Canada each year.

+
The Tannahill Weavers are one of Scotland's premier traditional bands. Their diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, and original ballads and lullabies. Their music demonstrates to old and young alike the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people. These versatile musicians have received worldwide accolades consistently over the years for their exuberant performances and outstanding recording efforts that seemingly can't get better...yet continue to do just that.
+
The Tannahills have turned their acoustic excitement loose on audiences with an electrifying effect. They have that unique combination of traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment, and rich vocals that make their performances unforgettable. Born of a session in Paisley, Scotland and named for the town's historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill. The Tannies have been trailblazers for Scottish music, and their tight harmonies and powerful, inventive arrangements have won them fans from beyond the folk and Celtic music scenes. In the late 18th and early 19th century Scotland was in a turmoil of change. Highlanders were being driven from their lands and into the burgeoning Lowland factory systems. This brought two quite distinct cultures together, the mystic Celtic culture of the North and the old Anglo/Scots culture of the Lowlands. They were married by the double barreled shotgun of necessity and the Industrial Revolution. But this forced union brought forth a cultural heritage which, thanks to people like Robert Burns and Robert Tannahill, outlasted the worst of the Industrial Revolution. It married the mystic beauty of the Celtic music to the coarse, brawling, but vitally human music, poetry and ballads of the Lowlands. It is precisely this strangely moving yet lustily stirring quality that the Tannahill Weavers have captured in their arrangements of the traditional music and songs of Scotland. All of their material is traditional, but as good musicians should, they have transformed it and brought it into the modern world, vitally alive and kicking.

7-7:45 pm --- Barry Cullison, says John Rhys, is someone he met in an interesting way. “We decided to stroll around the area in front of the Van Nuys library and police station. It was there I first heard this voice. I started looking for the source and saw a man sitting on a chair, playing a guitar. I didn't know his name and had never seen him before but he was good and I kept listening. I was fascinated as I listened to his intricate guitar work and poetic lyrics. I decided to have him come to the Blue Power establishment and do an interview. During our interview Barry played 4 excellent songs which I think you will find interesting. His style is unique and exciting. His vocal abilities are on par with his playing. The combination of both are daunting and considering the fact he played the songs live during the interview, awe inspiring. I do hope you will enjoy listening to Barry Cullison as I find his songs intellectual and poetic. Not to mention very today." ~ John Rhys of bluepower.com. More at http://podcast.barrycullison.com

Currently Robert lives in Santa Clarita where he regularly hosts open mic nights with his wife Aurora. In addition to playing weekly in his church worship team Robert is a member of the Flying Musicians Association and performs at air shows around the country with renowned musicians. Jann's new music video “MAKE IT BETTER” deals with diplomacy and how that affects various social and political issues, and it can be seen on YouTube. Jann's music appears on the GRAMMY-nominated album, “HEALTHY FOOD FOR THOUGHT,” on MTV’s “CRIBS,” and in the Paul Sorvino movie “DEAD BROKE” (Warner Bros.). Born in Germany, raised in Kenya and South Africa, the LAist writes, Jann "can be accurately described as the man chosen to carry on the legacy of great musicians like Tim Buckley and Paul McCartney."

"Home is what I know," croons soul songstress LISA DONNELLY for the closing song on her new album, “Home.” Lisa's seen the States, Europe, South America, and takes road trips up and down California like she's going to the corner store. But a road bound lifestyle does not come without lessons, and Lisa's spun hers into a grounding verity that shimmers in her new collection of tunes. Raised in Lawrence, Kansas, Lisa moved to Los Angeles and explored different styles of music, settling into the pop-songwriter genre with her first full length album, “We Had a Thing.” Lisa's music has also been heard on ABC's “The Bachelorette,” and she's shared the stage with the Blind Boys of Alabama.
