7 pm MICHELLE SHOCKED, plus OLLIN, play the Frog Spot - Friends of the L.A. River, at 2825 Benedict St, L.A. 90039.
+
It's a venue along the Elysian Valley L.A. River Bike Path! It's open every weekend, Sat 8 am-8 pm, Sun 8 am-6 pm. All ages, beer & wine specials.
+
Michelle tells us, "I’ll return for a command performance at The Frog Spot [this Saturday] and another on July 18th. I’m honored to share the stage with my new favorite East Los band, OLLIN [at 8 pm], and also rawkus bike punx PEDAL STRIKE [performing at 6 pm]."
+
She continues, "The Frog Spot is a pop-up project of FoLAR. The Friends of the L.A. River is a cultural institution in Los Angeles... [It] began with a visionary poet named Lewis MacAdams asking the river if he could speak for it and the river told him yes. The dream that began almost 40 years ago will come true next month when the Army Corps of Engineers undertakes to remove broad stretches of concrete that have entombed the river. An expansive bridge will be rebuilt at Sixth Street resembling a ribbon, and a bike path and green beltway will connect Angelenos to the natural beauty of the Arroyo, which Woody Guthrie describes in 'The Flood of 1934'."
+
She adds, "Please feel welcome to join in the daily weekday conversation or drop by if you’re in the neighborhood. Mondays at Church & State, Tuesdays at Urban Radish, Wednesdays at Daily Dose Cafe and Thursdays at The Springs. I’m on Meerkat every weekday at 3 pm for the summer, hosting a livestream. It isn’t a big production number, just a daily chat for 15-20 minutes — sometimes I sing a song, sometimes I read poems or excerpts from my unpublished manuscript, 'Bootleg This,' and yes, on occasion I opine. You can download the Meerkat app on your phone or follow via Twitter at @mshockedrox. Facebook isn’t much longer for this world, I expect, they’ve changed their rules once too often, but in the meantime, there’s a video snippet I’ve posted there."
+
Of course, Michelle Shocked is kinetic energy. She says, "Details are still coming in on my September tour, but it looks like it will start in France, then Portugal, Spain and swing into Italy. I’ll post the dates on my website as soon as they’re confirmed. Last but not least, I’m giddy with excitement to start rehearsals in the fall for the production of #HOPSCOTCH that will premiere with L.A.'s new opera company, The Industry. I’ve composed some music and will also be singing in a scene. How glamorous is that?! The artistic director, Yuval Sharon, is a creative mastermind, so audacious in his vision for opera and Los Angeles that the whole city, me included, is in love with him."
+
She's also an enthusiastic Bernie Sanders supporter. And ever the masterful songwriter and exciting performer.

Recording artist and very funny guy PHIL WARD tells us, "I'm doing a four-or-five-song guest spot, supporting the SECRET GARDENERS (featuring insanely great guitarist Barrett Tagliarino). Along for the ride are the (very good) DAVE MORRISON BAND, regulars at Old Throop Hall, and, I'm proud to say, my friend from the comedy improv world, CHRIS MATHIEU, who just released his first full-length CD -- turns out he's a terrific singer-songwriter."
